'Juego de Tronos' llega a Facebook: "Game of Thrones ASCENT"

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVRYa2duyReSYHEA2ow_LW9lixjUZSeTaIgW5-Tvufm62qZU7bCkmehu10VQV3lkIu4vHtK6EapBIVaMggXZOJ7qyPirPc84zfMTA9UEEViH9-skSKfENxjyqeTp0DTVO0OUFoMB36FzA/s1600/Game-of-Thrones-Ascent1.jpg

http://test.disruptorbeam.com/assets/uploaded/ads/announcement_promo.jpg

'Game of Thrones Ascent' viene a ser la versión de tablero existente de 'Juego de Tronos' sólo que transportada al universo de las redes sociales de tal forma que, donde antes jugaban 6 participantes, ahora podrán hacerlo 500 millones de personas (según estimaciones, ya que los usuarios de Facebook son muchos más).

http://test.disruptorbeam.com/assets/uploaded/ads/interactions_promo.jpg

 http://test.disruptorbeam.com/assets/uploaded/ads/wallpapers_promo.jpg

Game of Thrones Ascent is the name of an upcoming social game developed by Disruptor Beam in cooperation with George R.R. Martin and HBO. At the moment, beta testing has begun on Facebook.
There already is a Game of Thrones board game, and that might be considered a kind of social game, too. Still, there is a huge difference between playing a game with up to 6 players, and doing approximately the same thing with 500 million other people. I’m saying “approximately the same thing” cause in the first scenario you are actually interacting with the other players, and you’re also seeing their faces, while in the second scenario, you are sitting in front of your computer clicking away, in a virtual world.

Baratheon Game of Thrones Gets the Social Game Treatment

There are plenty of other differences between the board game and the social one. For example, in the board game, people have the major characters from the books and the series at their disposal. On the other hand, in the social game, they will lead the life of a noble pertaining to one of the great houses. Despite not playing a major character, people will be facing the same problems from the books and the HBO series: alliances, betrayal and what seems to be a never-ending war for the Iron Throne. The major goal of the developers of Game of Thrones Ascent was to bring story and strategy together. It remains to be seen if they have succeeded.

Iron Islands Game of Thrones Gets the Social Game Treatment

Jon Radoff, CEO of Disruptor Beam, stated: “Everyone at Disruptor Beam was a huge fan of Game of Thrones long before we began working on the game, so we recognize that other fans expect character-driven conflict and intrigue to take center stage in our new game. Westeros is the perfect setting to deliver on our vision of weaving stories through decisions and social interactions. Game of Thrones Ascent will bring the world of Westeros to the over 500 million social game players in the market today, featuring original artwork in a highly engaging game experience that is, most importantly, fun for fans and their friends!”
On the other hand, James Costos, VP of HBO Global Licensing, added: “We recognize that one of the reasons Game of Thrones has been so successful is because of its large and ever-supportive fan community. For this reason, we are delighted to give our fans the opportunity to dive even further into the world of Westeros and live out tales of intrigue, sacrifice and deception inspired by the stories they love.”

As of October 2012, Facebook has 1 billion active users. However, it is rather obvious that not all of these users will show interest in playing Game of Thrones Ascent. Some of these users use the social network strictly for keeping in touch with friends and family, others for professional reasons and not at last, despite the global popularity of the books/series/board games, there might be a great number of people who simply are not into Game of Thrones.

Beta invites are already given away on Facebook, which means that it won’t be long till the official launch of the social game. In order to be eligible for a beta invite, Facebook users must first Like the Game of Thrones Ascent page. Secondly, Facebook users who do not accept friend requests or who do not allow messaging from non-friends, cannot receive invites. More details are available on the Disruptor Beam website.

Brewery Ommegang and HBO® announce first-of-its-kind collaboration behind Game of Thrones®

December 18, 2012
Belgian-style brewery develops Iron Throne, a blonde ale, crafted in the spirit of the hit TV series
(COOPERSTOWN, NY) Brewery Ommegang and HBO are partnering on a series of beers inspired by the critically-acclaimed drama Game of Thrones.  Launching in tandem with the season three debut on March 31, Iron Throne, a blonde ale, is the inaugural beer in the series and the result of a creative collaboration between Brewmaster Phil Leinhart and HBO.
Unlike previous efforts by brewers which were typically executed as ‘brewed under license’ arrangements or straightforward product placement pushes, the collaboration between Ommegang and HBO is focused on developing unique beers that are named and crafted to directly tie into themes and nuances of the medieval-like fantasy realm of Westeros and the surrounding kingdoms, where the competition to sit on the Iron Throne is fierce and deadly.
Both HBO and Ommegang take great pride in a shared reputation for producing the best in their respective fields: award-winning series that are lauded as some of the best written and produced programming on TV, and award-winning beers recognized as amongst the most elegant and well-crafted.
“We are extremely pleased to have selected Brewery Ommegang, while there’s a lot of competition in the marketplace, Ommegang’s expertise and attention to detail in the industry make them the perfect fit for the Game of Thrones brand,” said Josh
Goodstadt, Director, Global Licensing, HBO. “Capturing the authenticity, essence and nature of the show, Iron Throne has the richness, quality and all of the elements one would expect in fine ale.”
“HBO has been the definitive producer of high-quality, innovative and ‘water-cooler-worthy’ original programming, and Game of Thrones continues that legacy,” said Simon Thorpe, President and CEO of Brewery Ommegang and Duvel Moortgat USA.  “What better partner for our brewery which prides itself on re-imagining the best of beer?  Game of Thrones is rich, fascinating, complex, daring and unexpected.  Many lovers of Ommegang feel the same way about our fine ales.  We think it’s a unique partnership for two unique brands.”
“No one enjoys their job more than I do -- producing and developing new brews to delight lovers of fine beer,” said Phil Leinhart, Brewmaster at Brewery Ommegang, “Add to that the opportunity to collaborate on a beer based on the cultural phenomenon of Game of Thrones and exploring ways to make the beer truly reflect aspects from the show.  It made us approach development in a completely new way and I think the first edition Iron Throne reveals that.  With a Lannister currently on the throne, it made sense to do a delicate, but piercing Golden Blonde Ale with Noble hops.  Iron Throne is certainly fair in color and soft in appearance, yet it still possesses a complexity and bite to be on guard for.”
Iron Throne will be nationally available on draft and in 750ml bottles, for the suggested retail price of $8.50 per bottle, beginning in mid- to late-March and will be followed by the launch of additional beers.

Crusader Kings II: A Game of Thrones

Game of Thrones

Paradox' excellent Crusader Kings II becomes, with an exhaustively extensive range of modifications - from the map to the characters to the very political structure of the game - just about the perfect Game of Thrones video game.

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR5K1DcdtfDycQc7MQbPpo_Omt7M5Y5brLzD8iP4Mi5X-3Iv3N9M5Iyi57sNYurvHazQBnKmasV83mg1nasqZP5OR4-JozHnxRzHUr26_bUJw2tAdZLtsbpgbN0qywQV_iIqRaf3CMad2M/s1600/10.jpg

There is an Awesome Game of Thrones Video Game.

You Can Play it Right Now.

Over the weekend, the first playable release of Crusader Kings II: A Game of Thrones was made available for public download. And it is already pretty much the perfect Game of Thrones video game.

http://media.moddb.com/cache/images/mods/1/22/21496/thumb_620x2000/ck2_19_copy.jpg

I mentioned in my review of Crusader Kings II earlier in the year that the systems put in place by developers Paradox seemed ideally suited to George R R Martin's fantasy universe. While there are larger things going on like Kingdoms falling and wars being fought, CKII places just as much importance on the more personal side of feudal rule: marriage, politics, alliances and back-stabbing. Which just so happens to b the same blending of the big and small picture that that makes GoT that much more appealing to a wider audience than your standard fantasy tale.

It was only last week, then, that in lieu of a decent official Game of Thrones title I was recommending people keep an eye out for a Game of Thrones mod for Crusader Kings II instead. Turns out you didn't have to wait long, because it's not only been suddenly released, but it's already surprisingly playable and, more impressive, comprehensive.

http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/17sypazm4wg2ujpg/xlarge.jpg

Beginning during Robert's Rebellion against the mad King Aerys, CKII:GoT lets you play as any title-holder in Westeros. And I do mean any. The mod team has certainly done their research, as going beyond the big names like Aerys, Robert and Ned Stark are hundreds of lesser lords and officials, some featuring as characters in the books/TV show, others only mentioned briefly or in passing.

http://media.moddb.com/cache/images/mods/1/22/21496/thumb_620x2000/ck2_26_copy.jpg

What does this mean? Everything I said about the main game in my review applies here, only everything I loved about CKII is now magnified, because I'm not playing as some random English Duke, I can play as Ned Stark. Walder Frey is there, and he has 100 kids, and they can all be married off to unsuspecting husbands/wives/victims. Even The Wall and the Night's Watch are there, though without Wildlings in this beta release, they're not doing much.

http://media.moddb.com/cache/images/mods/1/22/21496/thumb_620x2000/ck2_33_copy.jpg

Honestly, it's worth a download just to use it as an interactive Game of Thrones encyclopaedia, clicking through the family trees and lineages and histories not only learning about the world, but admiring the amount of work that's gone into this mod.

http://media.moddb.com/cache/images/mods/1/22/21496/thumb_620x2000/ck2_37_copy.jpg

In terms of what it adds or changes to the vanilla CKII, there's nothing too different. There's a new war system in place to better handle the nature of the conflict (since it's one giant civil conflict), a new assassination system and the incorporation of knights into the character system. Aside from that, and some welcome (and extensive) re-skinning of CKII's graphics, things play mostly the same as they do in the standard game. Some added, extra events - winter is coming, prisoners demanding trial by combat - are a nice touch.

http://media.moddb.com/cache/images/mods/1/22/21496/thumb_620x2000/ck2_18_copy.jpg

I haven't run into too many issues so far, but I've only been playing as the Starks, and I've only been playing over the weekend. I'm sure something will pop up sooner or later, this being the first beta release of a mod, but whatever. It works, and it's stable enough to enjoy. Know though that it does need some balancing, especially with regards to how strong King Aerys' forces are early on. Get past the early wars, though, and things seem to settle back down to a more normal pace.

http://media.moddb.com/cache/images/mods/1/22/21496/thumb_620x2000/ck2_27_copy.jpg

If you're a strategy game veteran, you'll have no problems here. Those who are big GoT fans but who haven't played a game like Crusader Kings II, don't panic; it may look complex, but it's surprisingly easy to get a handle on, and you can have enjoyable games only knowing the very basics of its structure. Later playthroughs, where you can dig a little deeper, will only get better.
You can download the mod at the link below. Note that, being a mod, you'll need a copy of Crusader Kings II first, which you can get here.

http://media.moddb.com/cache/images/mods/1/22/21496/thumb_620x2000/ck2_20_copy.jpg

UPDATE - Seems Crusader Kings II is $10 on Amazon, or $12.50 as part of a deal including other Paradox games. Great timing, that!
