More Season Three Casting Updates

It’s less than two months before the premiere and season three casting info is still turning up, along with a mention of season four.
 
According to the CV of Oddie Braddell, the actor will be playing the role of Wendel Manderly. Alex Graves is cited as the director, indicating that Braddell will possibly begin in the role during episode four or five. In the novels, Wendel is a large and honorable knight who fights at the side of Robb Stark and travels with him in the North in A Storm of Swords.

Also appearing in season three will be Kelly Long, who played the role of Lord Walder Frey’s wife in a season one episode. Long is a regular stand-in for the series, and notes on an industry website that she’ll be returning to her onscreen role as Lady Frey in season 3.

An intriguing mention of season four popped up in reports about two other actresses appearing in season three. Sophie O’Brien, who played a prostitute in Littlefinger’s brothel in two episodes last year, states on her CastingNow webpage that she’ll be in the third episode of season three and that she has a “speaking part.” O’Brien tweeted (*NSFW* link) earlier this month she has a role in season four as well, along with Pixie Le Knot, a well-known contortionist. It looks like Pixie Le Knot will be in episode three too this year, based on the tweet.

George R. R. Martin : "Luz de Estrellas Lejanas"

Sin duda, el éxito que ha acumulado George R. R. Martin gracias a su serie de Canción de hielo y fuego ha sido fundamental para la aparición de reediciones de sus primeras novelas, así como de la publicación de antologías, tanto recopiladas por él -pronto veremos Wild Cards 1- como sobre su obra. En este caso que nos ocupa, Luz de estrellas lejanas es un libro de lo más interesante para los seguidores de la obra del autor americano, ya que es en parte recopilación, en parte biografía.

En este primer volumen de su autobiografía literaria nos encontraremos algunos de sus cuentos dedicados al fantástico mientras Martin nos relata el momento y las circunstancias que acompañaban a su creación y publicación. Es curioso encontrarse los primeros cuentos que publicó, recomendados sólo para los muy curiosos, fanáticos o estudiosos de su obra, y poder hacer la comparación con sus primeros éxitos, relatos como La canción de Lya o El camino de la cruz y el dragón, los dos galardonados con el prestigioso Premio Hugo.

En Luz de estrellas lejanas podemos ver la evolución del estilo y la manera de narrar desde un Martin casi adolescente al Martin que ya ha terminado la universidad y trata de ganarse la vida como escritor profesional, todavía sin conseguirlo. Es una manera muy interesante de conocer el fandom americano de los años 70 y 80 a través de las anécdotas que va contando el autor, que nos habla de los grandes editores, como Ben Bova, y las revistas, que en aquel entonces eran la mejor manera de darse a conocer. Esta es una antología interesante, tanto para, como ya hemos dicho, los curiosos en conocer al Martin primerizo como por la alta calidad del resto de sus relatos.
Gigamesh va a publicar el resto de sus memorias literarias, en las que se añadirán otros cuentos y relatos, no sólo dedicados a la ciencia ficción sino también al resto de sus pasiones literarias, la fantasía y el terror, además de continuar explicándonos su trayectoria vital, que más tarde le llevaría a ser guionista de series de televisión como La bella y la bestia, y, por supuesto, a la escritura de Canción de hielo y fuego.

Para celebrar un aniversario especial, quieres regalar cosas especiales. Eso es algo que a todos nos gusta.

Por eso a César se le ocurrió encargarme esta tarta, inspirada en los famosos libros de George R. R. Martin, ya que él y su chica, son grandes seguidores de la saga.

 
Me dio unas premisas: que aparecieran Jon Nieve y Daenerys Targaryen, y si, ya, podían aparecer ella con un pequeño dragón (¡al ser la tarta tan pequeña, me resultó imposible!) y, él, con su espada, pues mejor, que mejor... y, bueno, intenté complacerle:

Para ella, opté por hacerle, como complemento, unos huevos de dragón y, su vestido, tenía un diseño especial, como los que suele llevar.
Y Jon Nieve, vestido todo de negro, su lugar le obliga, y con su espada:

Ésta era de bizcocho de fresa, con almíbar de fresa y crema de chocolate blanco y, según me comentaron, estaba riquísima! Y, de ésta, sí que tengo una foto del corte:

'Juego de Tronos', Temporada 3: Sinopsis No Oficial del Primer Capítulo

De vuelta en la HBO el 31 de marzo (9 de abril en Canal+), 'Juego de tronos' va a empezar su tercera temporada. Tras ver algunos teasers, imágenes de los rodajes y una galería de fotos de los protagonistas, esperamos impacientes el trailer. De momento para ir abriendo boca tenemos la sinopsis del primer episodio de la nueva temporada.

El primer capítulo de los 10 que forman esta tanda, basados en la trama de tercera Tormenta de espadas, tercera novela de Canción de hielo y fuego, ha sido dirigido por un habitual de la serie, Dan Minahan, bajo guión de David Benioff y D.B. Weiss, los showrunners.

Según este primer avance no oficial del capítulo 1, Jon (Kit Harington) es conducido delante de Mance Rayder (Ciaran Hinds), el Rey de más allá del Muro, mientras que los supervivientes de la Guardia de Noche viajan hacia el sur. En Desembarco del Rey, Tyrion exige su recompensa y Petyr Baelish ofrece a Sansa una salida. Cersei organiza una cena para la familia real. Arya se topa con la Hermandad sin estandartes mientras Daenerys navega con destino a la bahía de los esclavos.

Dean-Charles Chapman Joins the Cast

According to the CV of Dean-Charles Chapman, the 15-year-old actor has joined the cast for Game of Thrones‘ third season in an unspecified role.
Chapman was an original member of the London cast of Billy Elliott, and took over the title role in 2009. He spent two years starring in the production before exiting in 2011. Chapman also played the title role in the CBBC series The Revolting World of Stanley Brown and will be playing a son of Elizabeth Woodville in the upcoming adaptation of The White Queen.
Based on his CV, he’ll be appearing in the episode directed by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. HBO previously confirmed that Benioff and Weiss are directing episode 3.

He is represented by Kat Gosling of Troika Talent, the same agency that represents Lena Headey, Richard Madden, Oona Chaplin, Carice van Houten, Joe Dempsie, and Hannah Murray.

Given Chapman’s experience and representation, he likely has a speaking role in season 3. There are several possibilities. He could be one of the younger men who turn up in Night’s Watch scenes. There are also two notable roles in A Storm of Swords that we have yet to see cast that Chapman would be age-appropriate for- Edric Storm and Edric  Dayne. To date, we’ve had no confirmation that either character will be in season 3. If Edric Dayne is appearing, it seems likely he would show up before episode 3, based on the first episode synopsis. There is no mention of the Dragonstone characters in the synopsis, which could fit with Chapman not appearing until episode 3.

Mance Rayder’s Camp

Some of you may have read a previous post where I talked about our first meeting with Mance Rayder and how hot his tent became with all the SFX fires and torches burning throughout the day.

Even if we are filming on a Lava field here in Iceland, it’s not hot anymore – the car display indicates the temperature is minus 11 degrees. It’s day five, and all of Mance’s camp, not just the inside of his tent, is laid out before us. The camp is the product of months of work from the art department and weeks of construction by the local crew. It is spectacular.

Walking from base, the edge of the camp is only a few feet away, but the site is like a fantasy. If you can ignore the cameras and crew, you might believe you were actually inside a wilding village. Our extras (the men all with fabulous beards of course) work in between the huts or huddle around fires, and even children run through the snow to greet a visitor from the Wall, in their own special way.

It’s also a day when our friend Ian Whyte, who plays the White Walker, is back in a different role, one we haven’t seen before. He’s got some awfully big shoes to fill for this particular scene.

A few behind-the-scenes moments from today: How about our fantastic SFX boys setting up a grill behind one of the huts at the edge of camp and handing out hotdogs to anyone who wanted them? Or the fact that in the magnificent wide shot up and over the camp there were certain crew who couldn’t clear the shot fast enough after setting a prop, weapon or flame and had to curl up inside the tents, waiting for the cut?
